A couple recently exchanged marriage vows some five decades after first falling in love, in a story Tehran will probably remember for a long time, reported the English Language Iran Daily.
The husband, identified as 75-year old Abdullah finally married Zahra after her father had rejected his marriage proposal 46 years ago because he was not deemed fit enough for Zahra's rich and powerful family, said the daily quoting the report from the Persian Entikhab newspaper.
The daily went on to say that the young couple vowed to get married only to each other. To improve his social standing, Abdullah traveled abroad to make money. But when he returned after several years he could not find Zahra who had moved to a different address.
True to his love, Abdullah went daily to Mellat Park in northern Tehran - where lovers meet - to reminisce about his brief relation with Zahra. But one day he spotted an old woman who slightly resembled Zahra and followed her home only to discover that she was the person to whom he was devoted. She never married and was living with her sister.
But in another twist to the story, Abdullah's sister objected to the marriage since Abdullah became rich and Zahra was poor, the paper said. No details of the wedding or of the couple were given, said the paper – Albawaba.com
