Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad received on Wednesday Spanish Foreign Minister Anna Palacio and an accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, talks focused on the latest regional and international developments. In addition, talks centered on bilateral relations between Syria and Spain and the necessity in strengthening them in all fields.
According to SANA news agency, President Assad stressed that Syria supports the International unanimity and the activation of the UN role, underlining the importance of Spain’s role through the EU and its relations with the US to emphasize the importance of a peaceful solution and the dangers of war on the region and the world.
In addition, the Syrian leader indicated that the ministerial meeting in Istanbul aims at implementing UN Security Council resolution 1441 and finding a peaceful solution for the Iraqi issue, SANA added.
Spain’s Foreign Minister, for her part, stressed agreement with President Assad’s analysis regarding the situation in the region, stressing Madrid’s interest to play an important role in finding a peaceful solution to the Iraqi issue in the framework of international legitimacy and UN resolutions, the agency concluded.
