Syrian army forces ambushed a group affiliated to the Nusra Front on the outskirts of Damascus, t he Syrian state-news agency SANA, quoting a security sources, said Monday.
“A brave unit of the Syrian army ambushed most members of a terror group affiliated to the Nusra Front that was trying to cross into Eastern Ghouta on the Al-Dumay Adra Mayda’a road on the outskirts of Damascus,” the source told the Syrian state-news agency, according to The Daily Star.
The Nusra front, short for 'Jabhat an-Nusra li-Ahl ash-Sham' or 'The Support Front for the People of Greater Syria' is the largest Al Qaeda associate operating in Syria.
East Ghouta was the suburb of Damascus targeted by an alleged regime-sponsored chemical weapons attack less than two weeks ago. Over 1,400 people died and it has spurred on the possibility of a US-led attack on the Syrian regime.
