Syria arrests ex-head of investigation at Sednaya Prison

ALBAWABA - The Syrian Ministry of Interior reported that security forces arrested former Brigadier General Salem Daghestani, most notably as head of the investigations department at Saydnaya Prison.

Salem Daghestani is implicated in war crimes and held several positions under the ousted Syrian regime under Bashar Assad's rule, which collapsed on Dec. 8, 2024.

The Ministry of Interior revealed in a statement: "The General Security Department in Latakia, following a security operation, was able to arrest Brigadier General Salem Daghestani, the former head of the investigations branch of the Air Force Intelligence Directorate, who is implicated in committing war crimes."

It added: "It is noteworthy that Daghestani previously held several positions, including head of the investigations department at Sednaya Prison and head of the security committee in the Eastern Ghouta region, where he played a pivotal role in implementing what is known as the reconciliation file."

The ministry continued: "He was duly transferred to the Public Prosecution Office to complete the legal procedures against him."
