Eight rockets from Syria hit two villages in Lebanon's Bekka Valley Saturday, killing one person and wounding three others, security sources told The Daily Star, prompting residents to briefly kidnap three people from the northeastern town of Arsal.
Four of the rockets landed in the eastern village of Nabi Othman while the other four struck the nearby village of Labweh.
One of the wounded was in critical condition, the sources said.
Predominantly-Shiite Bekaa Valley villages have been the target of frequent rocket attacks in the past weeks. Some of the salvos were claimed by radical Islamist groups, citing Hezbollah’s military role in Syria.
Angered by the attacks, several people blocked the road connecting Baalbek to Hermel and abducted three men from the northeastern town of Arsal, a majority-Sunni area known for its closeness to the armed Syrian opposition.
Three men and two women were in the same vehicle that was stopped on the Baalbek road. The kidnappers snatched the men while the women fled. The men were released a short time later.
