Syria mulls response to Israeli flight as Turkey locates aircraft fuel tanks

Syria is mulling a "series of responses" after Israeli warplanes violated its airspace this week, Vice President Faruq al-Shara said in an interview with an Italian newspaper published Saturday.

"I can't reveal details of the measures. That's a question of national security," Shara conveyed. "I can say now that in Damascus a series of responses is being examined at the highest political and military levels. The results will not take long in coming," Shara told La Repubblica during a visit to Rome.

Meanwhile, Turkey wants an explanation from Israel after two detachable aircraft fuel tanks were found in fields in the southeast of the country near the border with Syria, diplomatic sources here said Saturday.

Turkish newspapers said the fuel tanks, discovered in the provinces of Hatay and Gaziantep, were from US-made F-15 fighter jets -- the kind used by Israel.
