Top U.S. military officials have said the Obama administration may consider a Turkish request for a no-fly zone along the border with Syria, The New York Times reported.
Thousands of Syrian civilians have sought shelter in the border area, the report said.
The Times reported Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin E. Dempsey said they were open to considering the request by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, but Dempsey added that such a buffer zone was not imminent.
