Syria on Thursday dismissed U.S. accusations that it was seeking to topple Lebanon's government with the help of Iran and Hizbullah. The Foreign Ministry said Syria has stayed out of Lebanon's affairs since pulling its forces out last year.
"The U.S. administration's attempts to circulate that Syria, Iran and Hezbollah are seeking to destabilize Lebanon are not true," the Foreign Ministry said, according to AFP. "Since it withdrew its troops from Lebanon, Syria has expressed its support for anything that the Lebanese agree on through their national dialogue."
White House spokesman Tony Snow said Wednesday there was "mounting evidence that the Syrian and Iranian governments, Hizbullah, and their Lebanese allies are preparing plans to topple Lebanon's democratically elected government."
