A Syrian rebel commander reportedly froze to death Saturday, according to reports from Agence France-Presse.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told AFP, "The [frozen] body of a rebel commander who was on his way from (the northwestern province of) Idlib to Homs (in central Syria) has been found. He died during the snowstorm," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The commander, who was a member of the Islamist Suqur Al Sham brigades, was in his 40s. His name was not provided to reporters.
The snowstorm has especially affected rebel-held ares where there are already severe fuel, electricity and food shortages.
The cold weather, however, has not stopped the fighting in areas such as Adra east of the capital where rebels and regime fighters have been fighting for over four days.
