ALBAWABA - Ahmed al-Sharaa announced on Monday that thousands of volunteers have recently joined the new Syrian army.
This move came following the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad's regime and the dissolution of his army and security services.
Al-Sharaa also explained that a large number of young men fled Syria to escape the compulsory conscription imposed by the former regime, which was the greatest concern for Syrians after the outbreak of the conflict in 2011, which resulted in the deaths of more than half a million people.
It is noteworthy that on Jan. 29, the date of al-Sharaa’s appointment as interim president, the new administration took a series of decisions that included dissolving all armed opposition factions, in addition to the army and security services.
