Syria wishes to restart indirect peace talks with Israel, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davatoglu told American officials during his visit to Washington last week. According to a report on Tuesday by Israel Radio, the Turkish minister conveyed that Syrian president Bashar al Assad has set a key condition for the talks - resuming it from where the sides left off late last year.
Davatoglu, who on Friday met U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, conveyed the message that Damascus has asked Washington to inform Israel it is interested in renewing indirect peace talks through Turkish mediation, the reports said.
Davutoglu reportedly said his country was willing to continue to mediate between the two sides and that Syria was waiting for Israel's response.
