At least 27 people were killed and dozens wounded after the Syrian army bombarded the western province of Homs with airstrikes, Reuters reported Wednesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said six of the casualties were children.

The air raids targeted northern areas in the countryside, according to the monitor. The rebel-held area has been a primary target for the regime as it tries to regain territory from the fighters.
