The Syrian army claims to have retaken a main residential area in the northeastern city of Hasakah from Daesh, Reuters reports.
Syrian state television released a newsflash stating the army had "cleansed" militants from the southern district of Nashwa.
Daesh assaulted the strategic city last Thursday, taking positions in the heart of the city's residential areas and driving out civilians.
Syrian forces have been fighting the militants since then to recapture the city.
