The Syrian Communist Party has urged the Arab states to hold an urgent summit “to defend the Arabs that are facing the Israeli army in an open combat.”
In a statement to Albawaba.com in Damascus Sunday, Abdul Wahhab Rashwani, Assistant Secretary General of the party said that “what is going on in the occupied Arab territories requires a stand of support for our Palestinian people who are fighting a fierce battle,” with the Israeli occupying troops.
The politician added that “these events have implications at the regional level, and will put the peace process at a serious juncture due to the Israeli practices.”
Rashwani accused Israel of “looking for excuses to carry out a wide scope military operation in the region, a threat that necessitates a unified Arab-Islamic stand,” adding that peace is not a goal that Israel is trying to achieve.
Confrontations between Palestinians and the Israeli security forces in the West Bank and Gaza strip were still continuing by Sunday noon, with a death toll of 23 and more than 600 injuries.
