A Syrian couple and one of their children were shot dead in Lebanon early Sunday, official sources told AFP, adding that another son had been arrested in connection with killings that appeared to stem from a family dispute.

Mohammad Humeidi, his wife and one of the children were killed in Deir Zannun on the outskirts of the city of Shtoora, which is home to the headquarters of the Syrian army. Two other children were wounded, according to the agency.

The sources said that an automatic weapon was found near the site of the killing, and that it appeared to be a family quarrel because another relative who normally lived with the Humeidis was found unharmed.

The killings took place at 4:00am, said the agency.

Earlier reports said that two Syrian workers were shot, and Reuters said that one of them was a child.

It was the third incident involving Syrian victims in less than a month in Lebanon, where the pro-Syrian authorities have arrested more than 200 mostly Christian anti-Syrian activists.

Two Syrian workers were killed on August 19, and two others wounded, while another two were killed two weeks before. Both incidents were attributed to the accidental detonation of hand grenades, said AFP.

There are about a million Syrian workers in Lebanon. Many Lebanese blame the migrants' presence for the high unemployment rates among nationals.

Added to that is the Syrian military presence and its political influence over its smaller neighbor, which have made domestic disputes increasingly complicated - Albawaba.com
