Israel is not serious about seeking an end to its conflict with the Palestinians, and its withdrawal from part of the Gaza Strip was just a tactical ploy, the Syrian government daily Tishrin said on Tuesday.

"The hullabaloo surrounding the comedy of the Israeli withdrawal from a part of Gaza gives the impression that things are heading toward a resolution" of the conflict, the daily said.

However, at the same time, Israel was continuing "searches, arrests, the demolition of Palestinians' homes, and expressing its refusal to release Palestinian prisoners," the paper alleged.

"Israel is not serious in its search for a resolution with the Palestinians," Tishrin claimed.

"This is not a genuine withdrawal, but a deceptive measure to change the emplacement (of Israeli forces), as a new military position has been established in the southern Gaza Strip," the paper added. (Albawaba.com)
