Syrian Foreign Minister holds phone talks with counterparts

Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk Al-Shara and his German counterpart, Joschka Fischer held a phone conversation Monday. 

 

Shara briefed Fischer, who was in Brussels, on the results of the Arab foreign ministers meeting recently held in Cairo, and during which the Arab Foreign Ministers agreed on the continuation of work with the EU and the UN security council members in intensifying international efforts to prevent war, according to SANA news agency. 

 

For his part, Fischer briefed Shara on the ongoing European summit events held in Brussels Monday, the agency added. 

 

Later that day, Shara also received a phone call from his Lebanese counterpart, in which the two discussed the Iraqi issue, according to SANA

 

Both ministers expressed satisfaction regarding the positive results of the Arab Foreign Ministers emergency Cairo meeting, especially the final communiqué, which stressed the necessity of abstention in providing assistance to any military action against Iraq as well as trying to search for a peaceful solution to the crisis, the agency said. 

 

Meanwhile, Shara received another phone call on Monday from his Iranian counterpart, Kamal Kharazi. 

 

The news agency reported that the two discussed latest regional developments in wake of the UN Security Council’s last meeting on Iraq and the Arab Foreign Ministers Cairo meeting.  

 

Kharazi briefed Shara on the results of the Iraqi foreign minister’s recent visit to Tehran.(Albawaba.com)
