In an unprecedented act of protest, a Syrian member of Parliament has started a weeklong hunger strike and a sit-in at his office to protest a lack of political reform, said the BBC Online.
MP Mohammed Mamoun Al Humssi said he was protesting against the authorities' refusal to respond to his demands for political reform.
Humssi had earlier distributed a paper calling for an end to martial law in Syria, tighter controls of the security services, measures against corruption and the creation of a parliamentary commission for human rights.
Humssi told the news service he would call on his fellow MPs to join him in a mass sit-in if the government continued to ignore his demands – Albawaba.com
