ALBAWABA- Syrian opposition factions claimed a significant victory on Thursday by seizing control of Hama's city center in central Syria following fierce battles with regime forces.

The opposition secured key neighborhoods, including Mazareb, Sinaa, and Arbaeen, marking their control over the city. The Syrian regime’s army confirmed the loss, stating that its forces had “repositioned outside Hama” due to the opposition's advance.

This milestone follows a string of rapid opposition gains. Over the past week, they captured Aleppo and Idlib, with "Operation Dawn of Freedom," launched earlier in December, aiming to dismantle efforts to establish a "terror corridor" between Tel Rifaat and northeastern Syria.

Opposition military leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, also known as Al-Joulani, lauded the victory, calling it a triumph for Hama’s residents.

The factions also took control of Hama Central Prison, releasing prisoners, and urged local authorities to protect public property.

The swift territorial changes have spotlighted the weakened regime forces and raised questions about Syria's territorial integrity amid foreign influences, with Turkey, Iran, Israel, and Russia playing prominent roles.

The developments underline a pivotal moment in Syria’s ongoing conflict, with analysts questioning the long-term stability of the country amidst intensified regional and international involvement.
