Syrian President receives North Korean senior official

Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad held a meeting in Damascus on Tuesday with Kim Yong Nam, president of the Higher Council of People in the Democratic Popular Republic of Korea.  

 

During the meeting, the Korean visitor delivered the Syrian President a message from his Korean counterpart, Kim Jong II.  

 

Discussions during the meeting dealt with the existing close relations of friendship and cooperation between Syria and the DPRK and with means of strengthening them, according to the official Syrian Arab News Agency SANA.  

 

Furthermore, regional and international conditions were discussed, in particular conditions in the Arab region as well as in the Middle East, where agreement was reached upon to follow up contacts and consultations between both countries.  

 

Yong Nam arrived earlier at the Damascus International Airport, where he was received by President al-Assad and senior Syrian officials.  

 

The visiting delegation includes the Korean Foreign Minister, Trade Minister, Health Minister and other high-ranking Korean officials.  

 

Attending the meeting between President al-Assad and Yong Yam were vice-presidents Khaddam and Dr. Masharqa, Parliament Speaker Qaddoura, Premier Dr. Miro, Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sharaa as well as ministers of Irrigation, Higher Education, and Economy and Foreign Trade.
