ALBAWABA - Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa was subjected to five assassination attempts in one year, a report released by the United Nations revealed.

Syria's Minister of Interior Anas Khattab and Minister of Foreign Affairs Asaad al-Shaibani have also survived multiple assassination attempts during the past year, the UN mentioned.

The report noted that Syrian Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa was the main target of five assassination plots foiled last year, along with Interior Minister Anas Hassan Khattab and Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, highlighting the continued threat posed by the ISIS terrorist organization in the country.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the assassination attempts targeted Ahmed al-Sharaa during his visits to the governorates of Aleppo and Daraa.

He explained that the plans were attributed to a group called "Saraya Ansar al-Sunna," which is dubbed as a front for the ISIS terrorist organization.

The report estimated the number of ISIS terrorists at about 3,000 in Syria and Iraq, with the majority concentrated within Syrian territory.
