Syria's ruling Baath party Sunday accused the US Congress of being "more Zionist than the Zionists" because of its support for Israel.
"For the US Congress, which is more Zionist than the Zionists, Israel is the victim, the Palestinian people the tormentor, the Israeli settlers are angels, while Palestinian children are murderers," the party newspaper said.
"The candidates for the American presidency are competing to get Israel's blessing. And the whole American establishment, in power or opposition, is working for Israel, to support it, cover up its crimes and finance its wars," it added.
Al-Baath said "the events in the occupied territories have unmasked not only an American position of blind support for Israel, but also a flagrant hostility towards the Arabs and the most basic human rights."
By a 365-30 vote Wednesday, the US House of Representatives expressed "its solidarity with the state and people of Israel" and condemned the Palestinian leadership "for encouraging the violence and doing so little for so long to stop it, resulting in the senseless loss of life."
