Syria's president visits Bahrain, Saudi Arabia for talks

Syrian President Dr. Bashar Al-Assad arrived in the capital city of Riyadh Sunday on a visit to the Saudi Kingdom.  

 

At the Riyadh airbase, the Syrian leader was received by Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, the Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard; Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz, the Second Deputy Premier, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General; Prince Miteb bin Abdulaziz, the Minister of Public Works and Housing; Prince Nawaf bin Abdulaziz, the Chief of General Intelligence; Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Governor of Riyadh Region; Prince Saud Al-Faisal, the Foreign Minister; other princes; ministers and high-level officials, according to the Saudi Press Agency.  

 

The Syrian President was accompanied by Farouk Al-Shara, the Foreign Minister.  

 

Earlier Sunday, the Syrian President made a brief stopover in the Bahraini capital of Manama for talks with Bahrain's King Hamad, in the presence of Foreign Minister Al-Shara, Charge d’affairs of the Syrian embassy in Bahrain and other senior Bahraini officials, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency. 

 

During the meeting, talks focused on latest developments on the Arab and International dimensions, especially with regards to the occupied Palestinian territories. 

 

Both sides called for intensifying efforts for ending the Palestinian people’s suffering and for restoring their legitimate rights including the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. 

 

In addition, the two sides expressed satisfaction over Iraq’s acceptance of UN resolution 1441, which helps ease tensions in the region. 

 

Moreover, talks dealt with bilateral relations between the two countries as well as issues of mutual concern. 

 

President Assad was received at the airport by the Bahraini King and other senior Bahraini Officials. The Bahraini King held a breakfast in honor of President Al-Assad and his accompanying delegation. (Albawaba.com)
