The deputy defense minister of Afghanistan's ruling Taliban militia, Mullah Nur Ali, claims that a US aircraft was shot down over the southern part of the country.

He made the claim while speaking live on Al Jazeera satellite TV late Sunday.

Moreover, the US-led attacks on Taliban targets in Afghanistan caused "no significant damage," a Taliban diplomat told reporters in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar.

Taliban consul Maulvi Najeebullah said the attacks by combined US and British forces against various cities across Afghanistan had done little damage.

"Cruise missiles landed in areas close to the Kabul and Kandahar airbases and on the outskirts of Jalalabad city but no significant damage was caused," he said.

"We are keeping in close contact with authorities in Kabul and Kandahar and they say they are undeterred by these attacks. Our Taliban forces are ready for retaliation."

The deputy minister also vowed revenge for the US attacks, in which British troops are taking part, to be follwed by French and Canadian forces, according to reports – Albawaba.com
