Journalists' rights group Reporters Sans Frontieres on Tuesday asked Taliban authorities in Afghanistan to release a detained British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) employee.

It said it had protested to Information Minister Qudratullah Jamal about the detention of Abdul Saboor Salehzai on charges that he was working without permission from authorities.

Salehzai, who is in his 40s, was picked up from his Kabul office on Saturday.

He had been working as an interpreter for the BBC for more than a year -- ISLAMABAD (AFP)
