A tanker carrying a cargo of chemicals was forced to drop anchor in Istanbul's Bosphorus strait to avoid being swept onshore by strong currents.

The Turkish ship, which had picked up its cargo in the Black Sea, hit trouble in Yenikoy, north of Istanbul, when violent currents started pushing it towards the European bank of the Bosphorus strait, which runs through the city, according to Anatolia news agency Friday.

The vessel was not damaged, however several tugs were sent to help set it back on course and if necessary tow it out to sea. (Albawaba.com)
