Tanmia participates in Counselling Arabia 2007

The National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia) is currently participating in Counselling Arabia 2007, a two-day conference aimed at establishing a national network of practitioners in the field of personal, career and academic counselling in the UAE and in the Arab world. Tanmia plays an important role in the conference that began yesterday (Wednesday, April 18th, 2007), as a member of the organising steering committee.

This year, the conference is being hosted by Dubai Women’s College under the theme Coaching, Counselling and Well Being. The conference is addressing topics such as Organisational Health, Special Needs in Education, Emiratisation, Cross Cultural Counselling, Innovations Practice, Programs and Training, Assessment Tools and Techniques for the Gulf region, Standards of practice, as well as International models of practice appropriate for the region.

“Counselling Arabia 2007 is an important event that brings together key practitioners in the field of career and personal counselling, and dwells on the latest trends, issues and challenges in career guidance and counselling,” said Saif Al Noaimi, Director of Center for Career Guidance and Planning (CCGP), Tanmia. “Effective counselling and guidance is essential for young individuals to evolve into well-rounded and successful professionals, and this conference with its stellar speaker line-up will go a long way in developing a pool of well-equipped career counselors.”

“Tanmia has been providing comprehensive career guidance services to young national talents to facilitate their professional advancement, and our decision to extend support to Counselling Arabia 2007 is in keeping with this approach,” Al Noaimi added.

Held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mabarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Counselling Arabia 2007 aims to bring together over 500 practitioners in the field of career and personal counselling who hold key responsibilities in professional organizations in both the public and private sector. This group includes employer-based practitioners, personal and social counselors, career development practitioners, and practitioners in the education system.
About Tanmia:
Tanmia, the National Human Resource Development & Employment Authority in the UAE, was established by a Presidential decree in November 1999, to address the imbalance in the labour market, due to excessive dependence on expatriate workforce. Tanmia is engaged in a coordinating role, between national job seekers and employers in the private and government sectors, to facilitate increased entry of nationals in the labour market. The responsibilities that rest with the Authority are: to set up the overall policy of the Authority and supervise its implementation, conduct sustained operational and administrative labour market studies and analysis, provide career counselling and guidance to the national work force, follow-up and evaluate employment of nationals in public and private sectors, support small investment enterprises through the establishment of self-employment projects for national human resources and develop programmes for training and qualifying nationals seeking employment, in conformity with the labour market needs.
