Egypt's military ruler said on Wednesday that the army would not present a candidate in the upcoming presidential election, dismissing speculation that it may have a military nominee in mind. Some recent reports have even suggested Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi himself is mulling his candidacy.

In response to a question about a possible military nominee, he said in remarkes carried by state news agency MENA: "We should not waste time discussing rumours."

Tantawi urged Egyptians to vote in upcoming elections.

According to Reuters, Egypt starts voting in a parliamentary election on Nov. 28. It has not set a date for the presidential race.
