Economic Zones World’s research and development initiative, TechnoPark will host the World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organization’s (WAITRO) 20th Biennial Congress and General Assembly in October from 11-14, 2010 in Dubai. The Congress will also hold a key industry conference on October 13 and 14 organised under the banner of DIT Strategic Forum. DIT (Dubai Institute of Technology) is the science and technology arm of TechnoPark.

The two day conference centred on the theme Leadership for Innovation will highlight various issues facing the industry today. The Leadership session will focus on 21st Century innovation leaders and their roles and parameters while the Finance session will hold discussions on innovative mechanisms for R&D financing.

Other sessions include Intellectual Property Management, Young Scientists: Development Programs and Opportunities, Knowledge Transfer: Challenges and Best Practices, Government Policies and Procedures pertaining to Innovation Ecosystem, Public Private Partnership and Science and Society.

DIT, set up to stimulate and support Dubai’s science and technological research development, regularly hosts global events that bring the international scientific community together to discuss the future of R&D and technology-led growth. DIT also currently serves as WAITRO’s Regional Focal Point (RFP) for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region.

Hamad Al Hashemi, Managing Director of DIT said: “We are very pleased to play host to WAITRO’s 20th Biennial Congress and General Assembly. In the last few years, global dynamics have changed considerably and it is imperative that the international community get together periodically to discuss new trends and solutions and establish priorities for the future of R&D led development. It has been the DIT’s endeavour to create a sustainable long-term platform to support the region’s R&D sector and we are sure this Forum will facilitate and open channels for collaborations between participants.”

One of the most ambitious initiatives of Economic Zones World, DIT aims to set up infrastructure and clusters of excellence that will focus on areas in science and technology that are relevant to UAE specifically and the region.  DIT aims to establish market-oriented support systems to boost industrial core sectors and contribute to the nation's long term economic progress. DIT/TechnoPark and WAITRO enjoy a strategic partnership and have worked together on the establishment of a structured framework for close interaction and initiatives with WAITRO member organizations in a broad spectrum of industry-oriented services and projects.

WAITRO is an independent, non governmental and not-for-profit association established in 1970 to promote and encourage co-operation among industrial and technological research and development organizations (RTOs).
