Ten cities go for 2008 Olympics

All ten cities applying to host the 2008 Olympics have returned questionnaires to International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland before the deadline on Tuesday, the IOC confirmed. 

The ten bidders are Bangkok, Beijing, Cairo, Havana, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, Osaka, Paris, Seville and Toronto. 

Their ability to host, organize and stage the games will now be assessed and decisions on which of the ten will be allowed to compete will be announced by the IOC Executive Board on August 29. 

The host nation will be revealed in July 2001 - (AFP)
