Ten people, including seven Muslim militants, were killed in a lengthy shootout between Indian troops and separatist guerrillas in Kashmir, police officials said Monday.
The gun battle in Banihal district, 110 kilometers (70 miles) south of the Kashmir summer capital Sringar, erupted late Sunday and carried over into Monday morning.
Seven militants were shot dead in the encounter, a police spokesman said, adding that two soldiers were also killed. One civilian woman died after being caught in the crossfire.
Meanwhile, suspected Mulsim militants triggered panic when they threw a grenade at the entrance to Srinagar's main hospital Monday morning, police and witnesses said.
