ALBAWABA - Clashes and mutual shelling were reported on the Lebanese-Syrian border following accusations by the Syrian government that Hezbollah killed three Syrian armed forces on the border yesterday.
Despite that Hezbollah, the Lebanese group, denied allegations that it killed three Syrian soldiers, who were on the border with Lebanon, and took them to Lebanon, Syria carried out airstrikes and attacks on various positions of the Iranian-backed group in Lebanon.
Syrian media and activists posted clips showing the Syrian army firing artillery shells and rockets at sites inside Lebanese territory west of Homs province early Monday.
In addition, the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported that rockets fell on the border town of Al-Qasr, originating from the Qusayr countryside inside Syrian territory.
Nonetheless, Footage shows the moment the Syrian army, accompanied by journalists including a correspondent and photographer from Al Arabiya and Al Hadath, was hit by a missile fired by Hezbollah members from the Lebanese-Syrian border.
The attack resulted in the death of a Syrian army member and the injury of several journalists, including the Al Arabiya and Al Hadath photographers. They were treated at the scene, according to our correspondent.
On the other hand, a source in the Syrian Ministry of Defense told Al-Jazeera that there is coordination with the Lebanese army regarding border control, but what happened on the border is considered a serious escalation.
What happened on the Syrian-Lebanese border?
According to sources, on Sunday, a Syrian security source accused Hezbollah militants of crossing the border from the Homs countryside, killing three Syrian army personnel, and dragging them back into the Lebanese border.
The source added that the Red Cross and the Lebanese Army received the bodies of the three individuals and handed them over to the Syrian side.
However, a statement was released by the Hezbollah group denying any relation to the incident that happened on the Syrian-Lebanese border.
