Unilever has brought in Gulf-based production company th1ng to direct and produce a commercial for one of its oldest and best recognised health brands, Lifebuoy.

The ad, created by th1ng’s director Andy Powell, promotes Lifebuoy’s antibacterial handwash and will run in cinemas across the Middle East.

Shot in an effect reminiscent of a scary movie, the advert features a bacterial monster confined to an enclosed dirty looking space. The monster is trying to get out to spread infection but finds himself unable to set free. Helpless, frustrated and enraged the monster runs amok roaring and throwing himself onto a cinema screen. The ad ends with a tongue-in-cheek strapline “this cinema is Lifebuoy protected” before the voiceover warns viewers that “they’re on their own when they leave…”

The advertisement uses a highly dynamic 3D effect designed to most effectively recreate a typical big screen viewing experience. As a short but impactful execution, it aims to quickly remind cinemagoers about the importance of personal hygiene and further cements the Lifebuoy’s regional recognition for hand wash education.

The Lifebuoy commercial follows th1ng’s previous Gulf-based commissions including advertisements for ACDelco, Rani, All as One, and more.
