Thai FM Arrives in Doha for Talks on Bilateral Issues

Thai Foreign Minister Surakiart Sathirathai arrives in Doha Sunday for talks with top Qatari officials on enhancing bilateral ties in the fields of politics and economy, reported the Gulf Times newspaper. 

Sathirathai is accompanied by a delegation of 49 people, including foreign ministry officials and top Thai businessmen from both the public and private sectors. 

Top officials from the Petroleum Authority of Thailand are also part of the delegation. 

Talks will focus on the construction and oil industries.  

Thailand and Qatar have signed economic, technical and technological deals in the past.  

“We hope to ink agreements on avoidance of double taxation and labor in the near future,” a Thai embassy spokesman said. 

The number of Thais in Qatar is reportedly 1,200, most of them working in the construction industry – Albawaba.com
