ALBAWABA - Following a tragic mass stabbing in Southport, Northern England, the death toll has climbed to 3, as it was announced earlier today that a 9-year-old girl succumbed to her wounds.

The Merseyside Police reported that two other girls, aged 6 and 7, died yesterday. Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said two children were killed in a "ferocious attack". She added that nine others were injured, including six left in critical condition.

The motivation behind the knife attack in Southport "remains unclear", according to police, the investigation is still underway.

Chief Constable Kennedy told a press conference: "the investigation is at its early stages and the motivation for the incident remains unclear.

However, Counter-Terrorism Police North-West have offered their support to Merseyside police as the full circumstances of what has happened are being established".

The offender "walked into the premises and started to attack" the kids at the dancing class event, according to Merseyside police. Kennedy stated at a press conference this evening that it was believed the two adults had been injured while attempting to shield the kids.

Kennedy announced that a 17-year-old teenager from Banks, Lancashire, had been taken into custody following the "ferocious attack" on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. She also mentioned that he was born in Cardiff, South Wales.
