Around 4,000 Egyptian university students on Saturday urged Arab leaders meeting at an emergency summit to declare war on Israel.
The students, marching on the campus of Cairo University, urged the leaders to declare war as the only way to end what they denounced as Israeli arrogance, an AFP reporter said.
The university, where anti-Israeli protests have taken place almost daily for the last three weeks, was surrounded by security forces, but they did not clash with the students.
Other anti-Israeli demonstrations were staged Saturday at the universities of Minufiya in the Nile Delta, Alexandria on the Mediterranean coast and in the south, correspondents said.
Arab leaders, meeting Saturday and Sunday to discuss the bloody Israeli crackdown on the Palestinians, are set to vote on imposing limited diplomatic sanctions on Israel and issuing a statement of condemnation.
