Thousands of Iraqis paraded through the center of Baghdad Monday to demonstrate their readiness to take part in a jihad or holy war against Israel.
State television showed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein give the signal for the march to begin by firing shots in the air.
The demonstrators, some armed and carrying Iraqi or Palestinian flags, paraded past Saddam and other senior figures of the regime.
Iraq claims to have recruited 6.6 million volunteers to fight against Israel alongside the Palestinian uprising -- BAGHDAD (AFP)
