Three people died while three others are missing and feared dead in eastern Spain after torrential rains caused rivers to break their banks and flood areas the length of the Mediterranean coast.
The Spanish authorities put communities along the eastern seaboard on full alert because of the flood waters, which cut roads and railways and shut down supplies of electricity.
Two of the victims were drowned and two others disappeared after their four-wheel drive vehicle was washed away as it was trying to ford a river near Cambrils in Catalonia, rescue services said.
A child who was in the vehicle survived.
Meanwhile an Ecuadorian woman died in similar circumstances at Ramonte, near the southeastern city of Murcia. After her car in which she was traveling was swept away by the current.
