Three Indians have been killed while carrying out maintenance at an oilfield off the Emirati coast, the Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Co. (Adma-Opco) said Monday.

Jacob John, Pradeep Kumar and Naushad were killed Saturday after "an incident occurred ... in the vicinity of a work team carrying out maintenance at the power generation barge, Um Shaif field," the company said in a statement.

The trio of workers were employees of National Petroleum Construction Co., a sub-contracting firm.

"A team of inquiry into the cause of the accident has been initiated and will report their findings to management," said Adma-Opco, which owns and operates the Um Shaif field, 75 nautical miles (130 kilometers) northwest of Abu Dhabi.

The same oilfield was the scene of another accident in April when an oil platform collapsed, killing four workers -- ABU DHABI (AFP)
