Through rose-coloured glasses – redefining the uae’s retail experience O de Rose blossoms with patchwork furniture, pop art and ethnic fashion

O de Rose – an eclectic new space devoted to art, furniture and fashion- redefines the UAE’s boutique experience as it emerges onto the Emirate’s retail scene with a unique perspective on fashion and functionality.

Opening its laser-cut Phoenix on metal doors this week, the villa-boutique seamlessly marries neo-bohemian aesthetics with modern form and function through a selection of one-off, hand-created pieces that accentuate personality and individuality. Embellished patchwork kaftans, metallic clutches with bold graphics deterring the evil eye, brightly-coloured Arabic tea cups, silver-mirrored mosaic tables, quirky pop and contemporary art, and embroidered ottomans are the hallmarks of O de Rose.

“O de Rose is an entirely new retail experience, offering clients a space to escape -- a style haven, fusing Arabic, Asian and Western sensibilities and mixing contemporary chic with ethnic tradition. We wanted to create a shop that feels like home, but a very eccentric home, so we offer contemporary art, statement furniture that can transform a space and really make it ‘pop’, home accessories, jewellery, clothing, and little trinkets, with each item having a personal, compelling story behind it,” said Mimi Shakhashir, one of three cousins behind the O de Rose concept.

“The boutique is the antidote to dull,” Shakhashir added.

O de Rose brings together the craftsmanship of both undiscovered and revered artists and artisans spanning the world from Bali, Thailand, Lebanon, Turkey and India to Saint Tropez, Germany, Italy, London and Paris.

Carefully-curated highlights of the O de Rose collection include suzani-embroidered, Western-designed sofas and large-scale ottomans from Bokja of Lebanon, tinned brass mezze trays by Karen Chekerdjian, plexi-glass floating stools accented with bold ethnic cushions by Nada Debs, hand-stitched snakeskin belts for both men and women, crystallized pop art, and one-off jewellery from India, featuring work from artists and designers not previously represented in the UAE.

O de Rose will officially open its doors to customers on May 6 at 7:00pm.
