A drunken man who jumped a zoo fence and swam across a moat to fight a tiger was mauled to death by the animal in the eastern Indian city of Calcutta, an official said Sunday.
"Witnesses said the man started acting like a circus ringmaster. The guards spotted the man and asked him to stop, but it was already to late," Calcutta Zoo director A.K. Das said.
"The tiger had at first ignored the man, but sprang on him when he began to gesticulate."
The tiger, called Bob, has a family with a history of killing intruders: his father Shiva killed one man and fatally wounded another in his enclosure four years ago.
The death was the second involving tigers in the last two days in Calcutta.
