TippingPoint, a division of 3Com and the leader in intrusion prevention, today announced that its TippingPoint TM X505 integrated security platform has achieved two new certifications from ICSA Labs, an independent division of Cybertrust, for firewall and IPsec VPN functionality.
The TippingPoint X505 is a multi-function security solution built on the award-winning TippingPoint Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) architecture and includes firewall, VPN, Web content filtering, dynamic routing and bandwidth management. The TippingPoint 5000E, which shares some of the X505 functionality, recently achieved network IPS certification following ICSA Labs’ first-ever network IPS certification testing. To attain network IPS certification, the TippingPoint 5000E satisfied 100 percent of ICSA Labs’ network IPS criteria and passed a rigorous mix of security, performance and administrative tests.
ICSA Labs’ firewall certification is based upon a set of standards determined and agreed upon by a consortium of firewall vendors, users and ICSA Labs’ certification specialists that includes both functional and assurance testing. The TippingPoint X505 obtained the highest level of ICSA Labs’ firewall certification, known as the Corporate Level. In order to achieve Corporate Level, the product must pass rigorous testing indicative of an enterprise-class product. Elements of the ICSA Labs’ firewall certification include testing configuration, installation, security policy transition, administration, logging and security effectiveness, which the TippingPoint X505 passed with a perfect score.
The TippingPoint X505 also achieved IPsec VPN certification from ICSA Labs. While interoperability with all other certified devices is the key tenet of the IPsec program, certification is achieved only after passing thorough testing in encryption, authentication, data integrity and multiple concurrent IPSec tunnels with a single IPSec peer. The ICSA Labs’ IPsec VPN certification is a pass or fail award. It is based on standards agreed upon by a consortium of vendors.
“TippingPoint has passed our stringent testing process, satisfying all the requirements to become certified,” said George Japak, vice president of ICSA Labs. “TippingPoint has now achieved three different certifications with ICSA Labs: firewall, IPsec VPN and network intrusion prevention.”
