One of the most anticipated event of the year is going to rock start today at the Dubai Autodrome. The top FIA GT drivers posed on Thursday at Ski Dubai for a memorable photo shoot that will commemorate the MotorCity GT 500, the final round of the 2006 FIA GT Championships held under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Executive Council, on Friday the 17th & 18th of December.
Thursday witnessed two test sessions for the MotorCity Cup for UAE National Superstock Bike and the MotorCity Cup for Motorworks GTI Cup. Also GT teams went through Administrative Checks and Scrutineering as well as the marking of the tires.
If the awesome skill and power on display was any indication of what's in store, the next two days is surely not for the faint hearted. Friday will start with two 90 minute practice sessions of where all drivers will get to be familiarized with the track by learning the different lines through the circuit curves and determine which gears fall into place best at that crucial millisecond and fine tune their engines. The qualifying session is a 20 min session scheduled to start at 5:45 pm is a crucial stage of the race, of which 20 minutes would set the Race stands sequel on the grid.
`In addition to the 500-km FIA GT race, the MotorCity GT 500 race weekend will feature a variety of supports races including MotorCity trophy Race for Motorworks GTI Cup Cars (2 races) and UAE National Superstock Bikes (2 races).
There will also be plenty of on-track entertaining activities including Bartercard Gulf Radical Cup demonstration laps, Dubai Autodrome Race & Drive School Single Seaters and drift demonstration, Red Bull motorcycle stunt display on start/finish straight, FIA GT drivers’ parade in classic cars as well as track parades for Porsche, Corvette, Harley Davidson and Lowriders (Modified Cars).
Throughout the event, the Amphitheatre area at the Dubai Autodrome will feature fun filled activities for families such as Red Bull Skate Park, trail mountain bike show and Break Dance demonstration as well as sky diving performed by the UAE National Parachute Display Team (Landing on turn 16).
