Real estate developers, residential community developers and contractors discovered the benefits of bulk Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) at a seminar on Wednesday January 31st hosted by PROGAS, the first private company in Jordan to market and provide bulk LPG Technology, and its US-based technical advisors and supporters, Ferrellgas, the second largest LPG retailer in the USA.

"LPG can do a lot for Jordan," Tony Dale, Ferrellgas Director of Business Development began to say. "It will reduce capital investment required for natural gas transmission pipelines, increase LPG secondary storage tank capacity in Jordan, replace diesel, which will lead to a reduction in emissions and ground water contamination, be an opportunity for electric generation and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) on a community system, and replace less efficient appliances with more efficient gas appliances."

The seminar highlighted the numerous benefits that are available using bulk LPG such as the possibility to utilize meters to measure gas consumption such that customers receive a gas bill at the end of the month for the actual gas consumed. The system is suitable for old and new buildings after an assessment is performed by PROGAS based on storage and space.

LPG can be used for a wide range of appliances in homes that include: water heating, burners, boilers, cookers, grills, driers, generators, pest control and outdoor lighting.

"As our technical advisors, and in order to adopt the most stringent safety measures, Ferrellgas assisted us in the adoption and implementation of relevant US safety gas codes that include the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes 54 and 58. They also supported us in certifying all our technicians, using the highest standards of equipment and the latest fleet of bobtail vehicles," said Saba Salti, General Manager of PROGAS.

He went on to say "The PROGAS team provides residences with a safe, convenient and cost effective solution in addition to our call and support center, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."

Dale highlighted the Community LPG Distribution System that he deemed a suitable solution for the real estate boom being witnessed in Jordan. He described the system as an underground piped gas distribution network that is designed to be virtually identical to a natural gas system and each home or building is individually metered, also like the natural gas system.

Bashar Kurdi, one of the seminar attendees and the marketing and sales assistant manager of Methaq, a real estate development company in Jordan, said: "The PROGAS technology sounds very efficient and feasible. We are interested in it and might consider it for the second phase of our gated complexes."

The way PROGAS bulk LPG works is through liquid gas that is safely stored underground with gas being delivered to appliances through a network of pipes that can be installed within a week. Individual tank sizes vary between 950 to 3800 kg, which is equivalent to 60 to 200 cylinders. Larger community type installation can have tank capacities up to 60 metric tonnes or more. The technology used is considered the safest and most efficient in the sector.
