Toshiba’s Computer Systems Division has announced the return of the libretto® brand, with the launch of the libretto U100 mini-notebook computer. The company has introduced the full featured mini-notebook as part of Toshiba’s 20th anniversary celebrations of the first laptop computer, and as a result of overwhelming customer demand. The ultra-portable and compact libretto U100 draws on Toshiba’s rich heritage in superior notebook design and engineering, and offers mobile professionals all the power of a personal computer in a uniquely portable small-form-factor notebook device.
Ahmed Khalil, Regional General Manager (Middle East and Africa), Toshiba Computer Systems Division, said that the new mini-notebook built on Toshiba’s record of having sold more portable computers than any other manufacturer in the world. He also outlined its main features: "The libretto U100 offers mobile professionals unrivalled security, reliability and connectivity through Toshiba EasyGuard technology, ensuring that even the most demanding user enjoys a consistent mobile computing experience. The small and versatile 7.2-inch TFT sized libretto U100 utilises a low-loss printed-wiring board (PWB), using stack via technology and other high density mounting technologies to achieve an ultra small form factor."
The libretto U100 weighs less than 1000g and measures a uniquely compact 210x145/165x29.8/33 x 4mm, and is able to deliver an impressive four-and-a-half hours of battery life, with an optional battery providing power for up to nine hours. The detachable and portable libretto DVD dock solution featured in the libretto U100 offers users instant access without booting the operating system to DVDs and CDs on the move, making it the ultimate travel companion. Khalil emphasised the libretto U100's enhanced data security, advanced system protection and easy connectivity to mobile workers and their businesses through Toshiba EasyGuard technology. "The fingerprint reader is designed to simplify user access and protect against unauthorised access to data held on the notebook through biometric authentication. This enhanced level of security includes password utilities enabling users to limit access to boot and the HDD, as well as Execute Disable Bit (XD Bit) protecting the libretto U100 against virus attacks. Toshiba EasyGuard also provides users with protection against common accidents," he stated.
The libretto U100 is as tough as it is compact and light. Equipped with Toshiba’s Hard Disk Drive Protection with 3D accelerometer, a technology that can detect the device’s movement on three axes, the mini-notebook is able to withstand unexpected impact, shock and vibration - helping to prevent damage to, or loss of, data. It also incorporates a PC Diagnostics Tool and easy-access components that allow IT departments simple access to hardware and software inventories, reducing downtime and maintenance costs. Easy and reliable connectivity is assured with Toshiba ConfigFree software, which enables simple identification, connection and management of wireless connections. The libretto U100 also features Toshiba Summit connectivity software that utilises Toshiba’s wireless technology built into the notebook to create a virtual meeting room, allowing for easy file sharing within a group where a WLAN infrastructure is not available.
The latest power and data processing technologies are central to the libretto U100, proving that small can also be powerful. The mini-notebook comes equipped with an Intel Pentium M UltraLowVoltage processor as well as highly versatile connectivity options including WiFi 11 b/g and Bluetooth V2.0 and Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) support. Additionally, the mini-notebook delivers a highly superior viewing experience featuring rich contrast, brilliant colours and extraordinary sharpness as a result of the Toshiba TruBrite 7.2-inch wide LCD screen and the first in its class with LED backlight. Toshiba’s proprietary control system manipulates the backlight’s 32 LEDs as a group, achieving meticulous control of luminance while minimising power consumption.
