To prepare for the launch of the Supreme Council for the Environment & Natural Sanctuaries of Qatar E-portal, (www.qatarenv.org), a project based on the technologies of the leading Arabic language IT company Sakhr Software Co. (www.sakhr.com), and implemented by Qatar Computer Services (www.qcs-qatar.com), Sakhr’s authorized dealer in Qatar, a training workshop was held yesterday, Wednesday, at the Regency Doha, and was attended by the staff and employees of the Supreme Council for the Environment & Natural Sanctuaries (SCENR) in Qatar.

The training workshop was inaugurated by Khalid Ghanem Al Ali, General Secretary, SCENR, in the presence of Mr. Moatasem Muhaisain, Regional Director – Gulf, Sakhr, and Mr. AK.Suresh Babu, General Manager, Qatar Computer Services.

Mr. Al Ali explained that the E-portal project falls under SCENR’s objectives of realizing the concept of a “paperless office,” and forms part of its efforts to automate and develop the Council’s services in keeping with the spirit of the Qatari e-government initiative.

“We view the adoption of this technology as a vital step forward. We also believe that our staff and employees must undergo training in order to increase proficiency and competence so that we may replace the old and traditional method of business administration and customer relations with a new, more developed, automated system that will fulfill the Council’s needs and requirements automatically,” commented Al Ali. He added, “We have found that Sakhr, and Sakhr solutions, offer all the features that fully meet our requirements, enabling us to build an exceptional E-portal befitting the uniqueness and nobility of our cause.”

The SCENR E-portal project is based on modern applications and advanced procedures to generate reports which will manage the administrative functions of SCENR, improve the decision-making process, and the formulation and implementation of policies by allowing analysis of information from different sources.

“This training workshop is of vital importance as it forms an integral part of our pioneering solutions in the field of document management, e-portals, Arabic bilingual search engines, and our automation solutions which increase productivity and decrease the margin of error to a minimum,” commented Mr. Moatasem Muhaisain, Regional Director – Gulf, Sakhr. He added, “As the Supreme Council for the Environment & Natural Sanctuaries moves towards realizing the eGovernment vision, it has become a shining role model in adopting technologies that meet the highest global standards. We call on all other governments to follow the Qatari Government’s initiative, and to make a concerted effort to adopt systems that stand-up to the demands of this era; systems which are comprehensive and which fulfill the needs of automated business administration on the one hand, and which offer increased capabilities for expansion.”

The project involves developing and operating an online services network for the Council within the robust, technologically advanced, seamlessly integrated web portal which will cover all the activities and services offered by SCENR. The public, companies and organizations, will be able to interact with the services available at the portal which are intended to support the decision making process based on the best, and the latest, electronically stored information. The portal will also facilitate official procedures available to the public by offering SCENR e-services (issuing various permits) round the clock, throughout the week. The project also involves building a unified database, and developing and integrating the existing systems within SCENR.

AK.Suresh Babu, General Manager, Qatar Computer Services, believes that this project will further enhance the efforts of SCENR in raising public awareness in Qatar.
“We are delighted at the opportunity given us by the Supreme Council for the Environment & Natural Sanctuaries to participate in the overall development Qatar is currently witnessing in the field of eGovernment. The system adopted by the Supreme Council for the Environment in Qatar will offer online services & facilities of high global standards,” he stated, adding that “the project is forging ahead, and will meet its expected launch date, thanks to the efforts of the project’s team of expert engineers and trainers from the providers of the most renown suppliers of modern technology.”

The project includes building a large E-portal which will offer comprehensive online services to everyone dealing with SCENR, in addition to an intranet system to automate SCENR’s internal procedures, all of which are based on Sakhr technologies such as ArabDox archiving systems and Idrisi search engine, to name but a few. Sakhr will also provide various other systems, equipment and servers, which, as always, are in accordance with the highest international standards.
