Tradition and style come together as DSS 2008 Sheila and Abaya Fashion begins
Sheila and Abaya Fashion, one among the Signature Events in DSS 2008, and a much awaited fashion highlight this summer, will open to enthusiastic crowds at BurJuman, a key sponsor of DSS 2008, on Thursday, August 7. The unique fashion show features collections of local and GCC designers with the aim of showcasing the latest trends in sheilas and abayas.
The five-day event will see two designers or labels in two shows everyday at 7pm and 8pm. The shows will be held at the Pavilion Gardens on the third floor of BurJuman.
Suhaila Gobash, Events Manager at Dubai Shopping Festival said, "This event is part of the DSF Office's constant endeavour to diversify the DSS events portfolio to cater to all tastes. Sheila and Abaya Fashion witnessed an overwhelming response in its last two editions and the quality of the event is consciously being raised in the third edition this year. The success is also due to the fact that sheilas and abayas are popular among a wide range of nationalities."
Shows for the first day
The first show on the opening day features the collections of Amina Al Jassim, a Saudi Arabian fashion designer of haute couture, sheila, abayas, and jellabiyas. Her designs naturally blend femininity and glamour and her individuality is expressed through innovative designs that can be worn with ease and comfort.
The second show for the day will present the collections of Khadija Al Lamki, a prominent Omani designer who has won awards in Dubai for her collections and has clientele around the world. She is a permanent fixture in many of the renowned fashion shows held in Dubai and is known for her use of silk in abayas.
Designers and labels in the show also include Al Yashamac and Al Motahajiba (Aug 8); Hanayen and Al Bait Al Bahraini (Aug 9); Al Annod Ali Saleh and Kashmir Art Gallery (Aug 10); and M&A and N.Collection on August 11 when the event will come to a close.
The CRYSTALLIZED™ Arabian Creation Award, an initiative between the Dubai Shopping Festival Office and Swarovski Middle East to recognize the talents of promising and upcoming designers in the UAE, will also be held on August 11. Around ten promising designers from around the country will compete for the prestigious title after being screened from hundreds of applicants.
