ALBAWABA - In a grim turn of events, former Palestinian Minister of Waqfs and Religious Affairs, Sheikh Yusuf Salama, has lost his life in the midst of the ongoing Israeli assaults on the Gaza Strip. The relentless attacks by the Israeli army have persisted for 86 days, and today's strike on the Maghazi Refugee Camp claimed the lives of 18 individuals, among them the esteemed Sheikh Salama.
The Maghazi Refugee Camp in the heart of Gaza witnessed another round of Israeli aggression, resulting in a total of 18 casualties. Among the deceased is Sheikh Yusuf Salama, a prominent figure who previously served as the Minister of Waqfs and Religious Affairs. Sheikh Salama, known for his role as the preacher at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, also held the position of Secretary of the Higher Islamic Council in Jerusalem and was the founder of the Grand Maghazi Mosque.
The news of Sheikh Salama's tragic passing was confirmed as his lifeless body was transported to the Aksa Martyrs' Hospital. His brother, Jamil Salama, emotionally recounted the events leading to the loss, stating, "Maghazi Camp faced intense bombardment this morning, targeting Sheikh Salama's residence. This resulted in his martyrdom and inflicted middle and severe injuries on family members."
Jamil Salama continued, tearfully describing Sheikh Yusuf as a revered intellectual and religious figure, playing a vital role in Palestinian society. "Sheikh Yusuf was one of Palestine's most esteemed scholars and sheikhs. He previously served as the preacher at Al-Aqsa Mosque and held ministerial responsibilities. He was the secretary of the Higher Islamic Council in Jerusalem and the founder of the Grand Maghazi Mosque.
Expressing the late Sheikh's commitment to his people, Jamil Salama added, "Sheikh Salama refused to leave his home, choosing to stay alongside his family and the community despite the dangers."
