Six people were killed and three injured in armed clashes on Saturday between rival Yemeni tribesmen, according to tribal sources.
In the al-Baydah province, some 250 kilometers southwest of the capital Sanaa, two clans of al-Jabri tribe with a running call for revenge, exchanged fire, which resulted in the killings of four people and one injured, they added.
AFP reports that the sources also claimed that in the same province, a gun fight between members of the al-Jarhoun and al-Sarima tribes killed two men and left two others injured.
A total of four houses were damaged in the second clash because the fighters used machineguns and grenade launchers, according to the sources.
There has been mounting tension between these two tribes ever since February 2000, when an al-Jarhoun man was killed by gunmen said to be from al-Sarima.
There are repeated deadly clashes in tribal Yemen, where the number of firearms is estimated to be more than 60 million or more than three per person. (Albawaba.com)
