ALBAWABA - The United States and Iran agreed on April 7 on a two-week ceasefire deal. Despite this, peace talks failed to reach a breakthrough in Pakistan; however, U.S. President Donald Trump believes war could end soon.

Trump told Fox News the U.S.-Iran war is "very close" to an end as hostilities ease amid a two-week ceasefire agreement.

"I think it's close to over, yeah. I view it as very close to being over," the U.S. president told FOX Business anchor Maria Bartiromo in an interview that will air on "Mornings with Maria" on Wednesday.

"If I pulled up stakes right now, it would take them 20 years to rebuild that country. And we’re not finished," Trump mentioned. "We'll see what happens. I think they want to make a deal very badly."

The first round of talks failed to reach a deal to end the war. But new peace discussions are set to take place in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Thursday.

On Monday, Trump imposed a maritime blockade on all Iranian ports, marking a fresh intensification of the conflict after the U.S. agreed to stop bombing Iran last week.
